Ed Sheeran posted an Instagram statement on September 15 clarifying that removing Macklemore from remaining U.S. Loop Tour support dates was a promoter and venue decision — not his — after stadium operators warned shows would be canceled if the rapper stayed on the bill.

Messina Touring Group had told Rolling Stone that venues would not allow concerts to proceed with Macklemore after his “Free Palestine” remarks and related stage presentation at MetLife Stadium earlier in September. Macklemore had been slated to open eight of the ten remaining U.S. dates. The trek is set to resume around September 19 in Philadelphia.

In his statement, Sheeran said he spent the week trying to mediate with venue owners, including Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft, and with promoters and activists on both sides, but “the venue’s and promoter’s decision was final.” He wrote that he would not abandon fans who had made plans or the touring crew and other support acts who rely on the shows for work.

Macklemore and Kraft issued their own statements as the dispute spilled into public view. Industry coverage from Rolling Stone, BBC, and The Guardian frames the episode as a high-stakes collision of stadium touring logistics, promoter contracts, and political speech on a major arena run — with the commercial risk of canceled dates ultimately driving the lineup change.
