Universal Music Group’s hospitality arm is planting its first U.K. hotel on London’s Denmark Street, the historic “Tin Pan Alley” strip long tied to publishers, studios, and instrument shops.
UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle (UMHL) and Outernet London said on Sept. 2 that UMusic Hotel Denmark Street is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 inside Outernet’s West End entertainment district. It will be UMHL’s second European hotel after Madrid (2022) and its first in Britain.
Beyond rooms, UMHL will help shape food and beverage concepts and lounge spaces across the district and will lead programming at The Lower Third, Outernet’s roughly 200-capacity basement venue on the former 12 Bar Club site — coordinating with Universal’s labels and artist network. Outernet Live, a larger roughly 2,000-capacity room nearby, anchors the same complex.
UMHL president Jordi Solé framed the project as stewardship of a street where British pop infrastructure took shape, from Melody Maker’s founding to the first sales-based U.K. singles chart compiled from Denmark Street addresses. The hotel replaces the closed Chateau Denmark footprint in and around the street.
The London move fits a wider UMusic Hotels push that also includes announced projects in Austin and Kansas City, plus beach-club lifestyle ventures. UMG Chairman and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge has already flagged experiential hospitality as part of a 2026 superfan strategy tying retail, live, and in-real-life events more tightly to the catalog business.
