Robert Palmer Estate Partners With Primary Wave on Catalog and Name, Image & Likeness

Primary Wave Music has partnered with the estate of Robert Palmer on the late singer’s publishing and recording catalogs, plus a share of his name, image, and likeness rights. The company announced the agreement on Wednesday, September 23; financial terms were not disclosed.

Under the deal, the estate gains access to Primary Wave’s marketing and publishing setup for branding, digital, sync, and film/TV projects. Palmer, who died September 26, 2003, at 54, left 14 studio albums and three live albums, per Primary Wave.

His best-known singles include “Addicted to Love,” “Simply Irresistible,” “Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor),” and “Johnny and Mary.” He won two Grammys for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance (1987 and 1989); “Addicted to Love” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986—his only chart-topper there—and its Terence Donovan-directed video took Best Male Video at the 1986 MTV VMAs. He also fronted The Power Station with members of Duran Duran and Chic.

Samantha Rhulen, SVP of Business & Legal Affairs at Primary Wave, said the firm aims to preserve and grow Palmer’s legacy with the estate. The pact follows Primary Wave’s recent Wilson Pickett estate deal and lands after the company’s Kobalt acquisition closed July 7.
