Apple Music Unveils New Logo and Identity Shaped by a Fred again.. Composition

Apple Music has a new face, and Apple says it was built with sound. On Wednesday, October 21, the company officially launched a new identity for its streaming service. The refresh includes a redesigned logo, an updated wordmark and an original sonic signature composed by British producer Fred again.. with the studio NEST Acoustics.

Making music visible

Apple didn’t simply draw the new mark on a screen. In a behind-the-scenes film released with the launch, the company shows the music-note symbol and the Apple Music wordmark submerged in water. Fred again..’s composition then ripples and reshapes the surface around them, and the results were captured in camera rather than generated digitally. Apple describes the project as a story of music, collaboration and craft, and sums it up as music made visible.

The hands-on approach follows Apple’s recent Apple TV rebrand, which also came with a making-of video showing a physically produced logo. Choosing Fred again.. ties the new look to one of the most visible electronic artists of recent years. He’s a producer known for turning field recordings and voice memos into club tracks, so a logo literally shaped by sound fits his work.

When users will see it

The launch didn’t come out of nowhere. For several weeks, beta builds of iOS 27.2 had shown a fresh Apple Music app icon and other design tweaks, and the new wordmark had already appeared in an Apple video. Apple has now confirmed that the full identity arrives with iOS 27.2, which reports expect next week, after a release candidate shipped to testers this week. Wallpaper* reported that the look will roll out across Apple’s platforms right away.

The service’s pricing hasn’t changed. Apple Music still costs $11.99 a month on its own, or comes bundled in Apple One.

Why it matters

Streaming brands rarely change their core marks, and Apple Music’s red-and-white note has been part of the service since it launched. The redesign comes as competition between music platforms increasingly plays out in design, discovery features and artist partnerships rather than catalog size, where the major services are now largely equal. Bringing in a working musician to literally shape the brand sends a message that Apple wants its service to be seen as made by and for music people. Early reactions online have been mixed: some readers loved the craft, while others asked whether the effort beats fixing everyday app frustrations.
